Nepal Stock Exchange Dips Below 3,000 Amid Market Volatility

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) saw a sharp drop today, with the index falling from the 3,000-point mark to close at 2,966.33 points. This marks a decline of 34.47 points or 1.14% compared to the previous trading session. Last Thursday, the NEPSE index had risen by 43.05 points, closing at 3,000.81.

Today’s trading session began with the index at 3,017.2 points and saw significant fluctuations. The NEPSE index reached a high of 3,048.15 points during the day but also dropped to a low of 2,945.49 points before settling at 2,966.33 by the day’s end.

The market saw heavy trading activity with a total of 330 companies’ shares being exchanged. In total, there were 300,918 transactions, involving 65,475,366 shares, resulting in a turnover of Rs. 28.83 Arba. Market capitalization hit Rs. 47.11 Kharba, while the float market capitalization was recorded at Rs. 16.61 Kharba.

Himalayan Reinsurance Limited (HRL) led in turnover with Rs. 82.14 Crores, closing at Rs. 958 per share, making it the most traded stock of the day.

Additionally, four companies reached their upper circuit limit with a 10% rise in share prices. However, not all companies performed well—Nepal Finance Ltd. (NFS) was the biggest loser, seeing its stock price drop by 10%.

In terms of sector performance, the “Banking Index” was the best performer with a 0.84% gain. On the other hand, the “Hotels and Tourism Index” faced the largest loss, dropping by 4.49%. The trading day was characterized by mixed performances, with both gains and losses observed across various sectors.
