The government has decided to grant a public holiday across the country on Thursday, Falgun 19. A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday decided to grant a nationwide public holiday on the occasion of Gyalpo Lhosar, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Gyalpo Lhosar is a new year festival of the Sherpa people of Nepal and the Sikkim and Darjeeling regions of India. While Gyalpo Lhosar is celebrated for 2 weeks by the related communities, the government has declared a day’s public holiday for all.
