The number of Demat accounts in Nepal has surpassed the 50 lakh mark.
A Demat Account or Dematerialised Account provides the facility of holding shares and securities in an electronic format. According to CDS and Clearing Limited’s official website, there are a total of 50,07,242 Demat accounts in the country. 41,19,021 of them use Meroshare, the online application and shares settlement portal.
The participation of the general public rose exponentially in the last two years. Speedy digitization forced by the pandemic and lockdown also helped spread the investment frenzy in wider parts of the nation.
