I am new to secondary market and I have noticed this many times that today’s opening price of share is different than yesterday’s closing price. Does trading happens even after the market has closed? Can someone explain why is this?

  1. Opening price is determined by the pre-open session. The most matched price in pre-open session determines the opening price of that stock for that day. If stock transactions doesn’t occur and also if the transaction occurs but at the closing price of the previous day, then the opening price remains same as previous day’s closing price.
