NEPSE Index Soars Past 2300 After Two Years

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index saw an impressive rise, surpassing the 2300 mark for the first time in two years. The index closed at 2,310.59, gaining 70.18 points or 3.13% from the previous day’s close. This notable surge brings back memories of May 12, 2022, when the index last hit a similar high, closing at 2,350.42.

The trading day kicked off with the index opening at 2,243.07 points, reaching an intraday low of 2,231.83 points and a high of 2,310.84 points before settling at 2,310.59. The positive sentiment among traders and investors played a crucial role in driving this substantial growth.

Today’s trading session was particularly active, with 315 scrips exchanged through 119,011 transactions. The volume of shares traded was 25,836,285, resulting in a significant turnover of Rs. 9.13 Arba, the highest in the last six months. The previous peak turnover was recorded on January 17, 2024, at Rs. 9.76 Arba. The market capitalization stood at Rs. 36.66 Kharba, while the float market capitalization was Rs. 12.56 Kharba.

Ngadi Group Power Ltd. (NGPL) led the market with the highest turnover of Rs. 21.77 crores, closing at Rs. 369.90. In terms of stock performance, six companies saw their prices surge by 10%, hitting the positive circuit for the day. On the flip side, three scrips experienced a 10% decline.

Sector-wise, the Mutual Fund Index was the only sector to decline. The Hydropower sector emerged as the top performer, gaining 5.45%, while the Finance Index saw the smallest gain of 1.85%.
