Nepal Stock Market Update: NEPSE Index Falls on Thursday

The NEPSE index experienced a downward trend on Thursday, the last trading day of the week. The NEPSE closed at 2757.97 points, reflecting a decrease of 9.22 points. This signifies a bearish market sentiment among investors for the day. The Sensitive Index, which gauges the performance of “A” category companies, also declined by 0.69 points, closing at 474.26. We also observed drops in the Float Index and Sensitive Index.
Trading volume was substantial, with 16,855,906 shares of 319 companies traded. The total trading amount reached NPR 5.02 billion. While the trading volume remained high, it was slightly lower than Wednesday’s trading day, when the transaction amount was NPR 5.20 billion. The total number of transactions on Thursday was 53,853.
Market capitalization, a key market indicator, currently stands at NPR 4608.43 billion. This shows the overall market value of all listed companies.
Stock performance on Thursday was mixed. While 53 companies witnessed an increase in their share prices, a significant 197 companies experienced a decrease. This suggests a selective bullish market favoring certain sectors.
Analyzing the sectoral performance, one group rose, while twelve groups declined. The non-life insurance sector performed well, up 18 points. However, several sectors experienced a decline, including commercial banks, development banks, finance, hotel and tourism, hydroelectric, investment, life insurance, manufacturing and processing, microfinance, mutual funds, trade, and other groups. This highlights the varied impact of market forces across different sectors.
The most actively traded companies in terms of value included Himalayan Reinsurance, Nepal Reinsurance, Balephi Hydropower, Butwal Power Company, and Himalayan Distillery. Himalayan Reinsurance saw transactions worth NPR 240.9 million, followed by Nepal Reinsurance with NPR 200.9 million, Balephi Hydropower with NPR 141.9 million, Butwal Power Company with NPR 134.6 million, and Himalayan Distillery with NPR 130.8 million. These top performing stocks are crucial for market analysis.
