Hydropower Project Suspended After Heavy Rainfall Causes Damage
Heavy rainfall has forced Joshi Hydropower Development Company (JOSHI) Limited to temporarily halt electricity generation at its Upper Puwa-1 Hydropower Project. The 3 MW power plant has been impacted by floods, resulting in damage to several structures in the headworks area.
The company reports that persistently high water levels in the Puwa Khola are impeding a thorough assessment and valuation of the full extent of the damage. This hydropower disruption comes as a result of severe weather conditions and subsequent flooding.
In compliance with securities regulations, Joshi Hydropower Development Company has notified the Nepal Stock Exchange about the situation. Both the Upper Puwa-1 Hydroelectric Project and associated projects are currently non-operational due to these unforeseen and uncontrollable circumstances related to the hydro plant.
Joshi Hydropower Development Company assures its stakeholders that restoration efforts will begin as soon as the situation stabilizes. The company has committed to providing updates and further information regarding the extent of the damage to the power generation facility as it becomes available. This incident highlights the vulnerability of renewable energy infrastructure to extreme weather events, specifically flood damage to hydropower plants. The power outage will hopefully be resolved soon.
