Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) will unveil the monetary policy for fiscal year 2081/82 on Friday, the 4th of Shrawan. The central bank has completed the draft, and a management committee meeting is scheduled today to finalize the details.
Initially, NRB planned to release the policy by the 15th of Shrawan. However, after a nearly two-hour discussion between Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel and NRB Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari on Tuesday, the decision was made to expedite the release to this Friday.
The Economic Research Department of NRB has incorporated suggestions from inter-departmental discussions and presented the draft to the management committee, following the guidelines for monetary policy formulation.
The central bank aims to finalize and approve the monetary policy in a board meeting on Friday morning, followed by a public announcement later in the day.
Before the discussion with the Finance Minister, Governor Adhikari met with representatives from the Bankers Association and all banking and financial institutions. Additionally, the NRB’s Bank Supervision Department held discussions with the CEOs of commercial banks a few days earlier.
Traditionally, NRB announces the monetary policy by the 15th of Shrawan each fiscal year. Due to the prompt agreement between the newly appointed Finance Minister and the Governor, the policy will be released earlier this year on the 4th of Shrawan.
