Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Suffers Second Consecutive Day of Decline After Dashain Holiday

Kathmandu – The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) experienced a continued downturn, marking its second consecutive day of decline after the Dashain holiday. On Wednesday, the NEPSE index closed at 2559.59 points, a decrease of 45.36 points. The sensitive index, which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies, also fell by 8.15 points to close at 446.47 points. The float index decreased by 3.41 points, and the sensitive index dropped by 3.04 points.

Market activity on Wednesday involved 335 companies, with 63,509 transactions resulting in the trading of 13,749,504 shares. This trading activity amounted to a turnover of 5.76 billion Nepalese Rupees (NPR). This figure is an increase of 1.13 billion NPR compared to Tuesday’s trading volume.

In comparison, Tuesday’s stock market saw 326 companies involved in 55,450 transactions, with 11,345,903 shares traded, resulting in a turnover of 4.62 billion NPR.

On Wednesday, only 18 companies saw their share prices increase, while 232 companies experienced a decrease. One company’s share price remained unchanged.

All thirteen sub-groups within the NEPSE index experienced declines. The banking sector decreased by 21 points, development banks by 128 points, finance companies by 73 points, hotels and tourism by 192 points, hydropower by 79 points, investment by 2 points, life insurance by 206 points, manufacturing and processing by 77 points, microfinance by 94 points, mutual funds by 0.18 points, non-life insurance by 226 points, trading by 16 points, and the other group by 29 points.

The companies with the highest turnover in terms of value were Nepal Reinsurance, Union Hydropower Limited, Synergy Power Development Limited, NRN Infrastructure and Development, and Himalayan Reinsurance.

Nepal Reinsurance recorded a turnover of 261.6 million NPR, Union Hydropower Limited 244.9 million NPR, Synergy Power Development Limited 225 million NPR, NRN Infrastructure and Development 188 million NPR, and Himalayan Reinsurance 177.1 million NPR.
