NEPSE Climbs in Final Hours: A Post-Tihar Stock Market Update

The share market in Nepal saw a positive surge in the closing hours of trading on Sunday. The NEPSE index experienced a notable increase, gaining momentum after 2:30 pm to ultimately close at 2,509 points, a rise of 5.19 points. This positive close came after a dip earlier in the day, with the NEPSE hitting a low of 2,470 points at 11:23 am. Investors following the Kathmandu stock exchange will be keen to see if this upward trend continues.

However, trading volume remained relatively low, totaling Rs 266 million. This compares to Rs 279 million on the last trading day before the Tihar holiday. The figures suggest cautious optimism prevailing in the Nepalese stock market.

Analyzing the performance across different sectors, out of 248 companies traded, 98 experienced price increases, while 146 saw declines, and 4 remained unchanged. The “Other” sector emerged as the leading gainer, surging by 3.05 per cent. Nepal Reinsurance’s significant 7.10 per cent increase played a vital role in propelling this sector’s growth, making it a company to watch for investment opportunities.

Other sectors demonstrating positive performance included Life Insurance (up 0.61 per cent), Manufacturing & Processing (up 0.02 per cent), Non-Life Insurance (up 0.08 per cent), and Trading (up 0.81 per cent). However, not all sectors shared in the gains. Banking stocks fell 0.35 per cent, Development Banks declined 0.29 per cent, Finance stocks decreased 0.72 per cent, Hotels & Tourism saw a drop of 0.57 per cent, Hydropower fell 0.33 per cent, Microfinance declined 0.23 per cent, and the Investment sector saw a decrease of 0.34 per cent.

Among individual companies, Samata Domestic Microfinance stood out with the highest gain, rising by 8.89 per cent. Other companies experiencing notable increases included Himalayan Power Partner (7.63 per cent), Nepal Reinsurance (7.10 per cent), Women’s Microfinance (6.05 per cent), Crest MicroLife Insurance (5.70 per cent), and Bhugol Energy (5.08 per cent). These companies represent potential growth stocks for investors.

Conversely, some companies faced losses. Taragaun Regency fell 7.16 per cent, Bhagwati Hydropower decreased 7.13 per cent, Asian Hydropower declined 5.16 per cent, Unnati Sahakarya Microfinance fell 4.72 per cent, and Atmanirbhar Microfinance dropped 4.62 per cent.

The most actively traded companies and securities on the day were Nepal Reinsurance, Siddhartha Bank Debenture 89, Union Hydropower, Himalayan Power Partner, and Himalayan Distillery. These high-volume stocks are often closely watched by day traders and institutional investors.
